For the second year running, every evening from 26 June to 12 September 2009, the Domaine National de Chambord (Centre-val de Loire) hosts its night-time light display “Chambord, rêve de lumières” [Chambord, a dream of lights].
Projected onto the chateau’s famous north façade, the display plunges visitors into the Renaissance period, to witness the monumental construction of the chateau, with the look of a fortress, which was to become, by turns, a staging post for the travelling court of Francis I, a hunting lodge, and the scene of feasts and balls… Chambord relives its glorious hours.
Find out more about the chateau: Far from the stresses of daily life, in the heart of nature, between a royal river never to have been tamed and a wooded region abounding in stags and wild boar, stands the chateau of Chambord. Less than two hours south of Paris, Chambord is at the gateway to the Loire Valley, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for being a “living cultural landscape”. An absolute must, Chambord is the largest and most prestigious of French Renaissance chateaux. This majestic stone colossus conjures up the entire way of life of Francis I.
