Description - City-breaks in France

Description of activity "City-breaks in France"  :   Metz, city of glamour, seduces by its elegance. Fringed with gardens, set with waters, the old town goes hand in hand with the European one, and adds to this urban chic a "haute couture" event : the Centre Pompidou-Metz (opening in 2009).
Saint Stephen's Cathedral shows splendid stained glass windows from the 13th till the 20th century (including some of Chagall).
The Imperial District (around the railway station), is a remarkable illustration, completely preserved, of the Germanic town planning of the beginning of the 20th century. It offers an extraordinary encyclopaedia of the historical or new styles, and is candidate to the classification on UNESCO's World Heritage List.
The Museums "La Cour d'Or" shelter wonderful and original treasures.
Celebration and Festivities : - Flea Market (second biggest in France after Saint Ouen), 20 Saturdays a year according to the calendar of events- "Fetes de la Mirabelle"(end of August)- "Montgolfiades" (hot-air ballon event) in September - The Dancing Fountains Show (water, light and music) : July and August at nightfall- The Floral Greensward, all summer long- Antiquity Exhibition, in November- Saint Nicolas Parade and the Christmas Market, from end of November to end of December. The Tourist Office of Metz suggests you all year through ideas to discover the city (special packages for individuals as well as for groups, thematic guided tours...).
