In the magnificent galleries of "LA CATHEDRALE
D'IMAGES", audiovisual creation and innovation will allow you to
discover a magical and unforgettable place. After Van Gogh, it is now the turn
of Picasso to be showcased from 25 February 2009 to 3 January 2010.
A stone’s throw away from the city of Les Baux de Provence (PACA
- the Provence-Alpes-Côté d’Azur Region), in the heart of the Alpilles
Mountains, there is a place which is full of mystery: le Val d’Enfer
(the Valley of Hell). This small valley, which has exceptional mineral
crystallizations, has always inspired artists: Dante set the scene of "The
Divine Comedy" there, Gounod created his opera "Mireille" there and Paul
McCartney wrote a song about it.
Each year, new programmes, which are
created and established according to a theme, pay tribute to the eloquence of
the image, leading spectators into a new world composed of illustrations
and music. The spectators are introduced into a new area of images
and transported to a musical universe, without any comments to give free rein to
their imagination.
Artists have often inhabited this world of
stone: Michelangelo, Bosch, Brueghel,
Cézanne, Van Gogh etc.
In 2009, the quarries will pay tribute to the most extraordinary genius
of contemporary painting, Pablo Picasso. On this
occasion, the directors Gianfranco Iannuzzi and Renato Gatto will present a
creation that bears the hallmark of the pictorial richness of this exceptional
artist, from Neoclassicism to cubism’s multiple
perspectives, from the blue and pink periods to the explosion of colours and
shapes…
