General description : Where fresh water meets salt water, where the Canal du Midi and the River Hérault meet the sea, Cap d'Agde, the town of Agde, Le Grau d'Agde and La Tamarissière offer all the pleasures of the Mediterranean in a lush, well-preserved environment.

If you're looking to explore, there are plenty of cycle tracks, footpaths, pedestrian quaysides in the marina, boat trips to the Fort de Brescou, walks along the volcanic cliffs and the banks of the Hérault, rides on the Petit Train (Miniature Train) or the Coche d’Eau (the Barge), or excursions into the surrounding 'Pays d'Agde' to seek out local produce along the "Route des Vignerons et des Pêcheurs".

If you are a lover of nature, you won't be disappointed: the Canal du Midi offers peaceful cruises towards the Etang de Thau or the architectural splendours of Béziers; the Bagnas Nature Reserve is home to over 200 species of birds; the underwater trail offers encounters with sea creatures and marine flora; you can explore the region's volcanic past in the company of an instructor from the Pays d'Agde Association for the Defence of the Environment and Nature; Mont Saint-Loup , a wooded former volcano, offers a panoramic view of the region; the Aquarium, with its Mediterranean and tropical fish collection, is a real window under the sea.

If it's history you're looking for, Agde has 2600 years of it. Let us guide you round the narrow streets and monuments and tell you of their past: the fortified Romanesque cathedral, the Fort de Brescou (a former State prison in the 18th Century), the 'Musée de l'Ephèbe' (underwater archaeology, including the Hellenistic statue of the "Ephèbe d'Agde"), and the 'Musée Agathois' (history and traditions).

If you're looking for sport and leisure on land or sea, there's something for everyone: golf, tennis, Aqualand, themed leisure parks, the "Ile des Loisirs" with its casino, cinema and discothèques., billiards, gymnastics lessons, go-karting and a full range of water sports: sailing, motor boats, rowing, sub-aqua diving, water skiing, jet-ski, fishing, etc. For children, there are entertainments and special activities recognised by the "Famille Plus" Label: miniature ports, Club Mickey, Dino Park, etc.

And of course there are the 14 km of fine sandy beaches - with amenities or unspoilt - inviting you to relax.
