General description :
New Caledonia : a land of discovery and adventure At the other end of the world lies a small corner of paradise, caressed by the tradewinds of the Pacific ocean , where the visitors can delight in the discovery of an unique destination where ancient oceanic traditions combine with French culture. In Noumea, you can discover the charm and relaxed ambience of colonial houses surrounded by gardens filled with exotic fragrances and white sand beaches bordered with coconut palms. From Port Moselle you can escape to the islets of Paradise including Phare Amédée, relic of Port de France, former name given to our capital. For intimate dinners, Noumea can offer a vast array of flavours originating from different ethnic groups living together in harmony.A few kilometres from the city lights opens up a world of adventure and exoticism. The stockmen or cowboys from the West Coast live here on their cattle stations, huge livestock breeding farms where the Charolais sometimes rubs shoulders with the wild Rusa deer. On horseback, you can discover the "Central Chain" and the tribes who live there, experiencing what the "elders" describe as a peaceful sojourn. On the East Coast, sprinkled with green valleys bathed in rivers or rippling waterfalls, you can dive into the Melanesian way of life and tropical universe where the cagous and nautous traverse immense forests populated by palm tree ferns or antique kaoris. In their Pacific Ocean setting, the Loyalty Island pearls won't take you into their confidence easily but still leave an unforgettable souvenir.Kunié, more commonly called Isle of Pines , whose beauty is renowned far beyond the boundaries of the Pacific, will transport you to the heart of paradise on swaying pirogues navigated at the whim of the winds by strapping islanders towards immaculate beaches bordered by crystalline waters and desert islets soaked in sunshine. The Wapan dancers, adorned by traditional costumes will charm you with the grace of their incantatory ballets. An ecological eldorado:Located in the heart of the Pacific Ocean, New Caledonia is a showcase for exceptional fauna and flora, concentrating the largest number of endemic vegetal species in the South Pacific, as well as unique and archaic animal species. The New Caledonian nature is protected making it easy for eco-adventure enthusaists to discover the numerous provincial parks and marine reserves. The primary forest contains a large diversity of wood, including the colonial pines, the houp, the gum oak, kaori and banyan tree. The terrestrial fauna comprises 4,300 species, all harmless and often endemic : bats, wild pigs, lizards and geckos .What a great thrill to come across a cagou, a bird who barks instead of whistling and who runs instead of flying. This rare and unusual wading bird, adorned with magnificent grey blue feathers, has become the emblem of New Caledonia and is today fiercely protected due to its incapacity to defend itself against predators. The largest Lagoon in the world:Decorated by a coral reef measuring 1,600 kms, New Caledonia boasts The Largest Lagoon in the World, inhabited by an exceptionally rich flora and fauna. The water temperature, which varies between 21 and 28°C, is your personal invitation to all nautical and swimming activities. There is an impressive range of accommodation in New Caledonia with regard to comfort and specific requirements; from Melanesian lodgings in the bush for lovers of authenticity to luxury hotels for that once in a lifetime experience.
Description "Overseas France"
Description of activity "Overseas France" :
ORIGINAL LAND In the middle of the South Pacific, there is an archipelago swimming in an immense emerald green laggon with golden high-lights, you are in New Caledonia. It can only be described with a litany of superlatives. The biggest lagoon in the world, the greatest number of plant species in the Pacific, one of the richest tropical forests in the world... In this land of contrasts, compresing Grande Terre, the Loyalty Isles, the Isle of Pines, Bélep Islands and a host of little islands, there is nothing that is not exceptional. The excessiveness of Grande Terre lies in its multiplicity of natural landscapes, the beauty of its wild expanses, and the astonishing riches generated by its two coasts, with their protected natural environment. Nouméa has become a charming capital with wide bright bays, the French showcase of the South Pacific : a garden-city in which urban development and nature live in harmony Not be missed, the Isle of Pines is a timeless location, borderer with white sand and crystalline waters, which have brought it the reputation of an oceanic eden. A remarkable blend of the age-old Kanak culture, contemporary Europe, Asia and colourful Pacific societies, New Caledonia reflects in its faces the extraordinary diversity of its population. From the cowboys of the west coast, here known as "stockmen", to the bribes of the Isle of Pines, the atmosphere of this little corner of France is unique in this vast region on the other side of the world. A visit to a tribe is a unique opportunity to learn about customs and lifestyle of the melanesians. Not to be missed : Tjibaou Arts and CulturalCentre in Nouméa Amédée lighthouse Isle of Pines Bourail, the Roche Percée and Poé Beach Yaté, the Blue River Parc and Madeleine Falls.
