Company description
General description :
Marseille, a charming city in the heart of Provence
Marseille is the 2nd largest city in France, and the capital of the Mediterranean, ideally situated in the heart of Provence. It is the oldest city in France, founded 2,600 years ago. It combines the treasures of a unique heritage, a rich cultural life and a magnificent natural location between the hills and the sea.
Marseille is a Euromediterranean metropolis. The arrival of the high Speed Train TGV (Paris Marseille in 3 hours), the ever more numerous cruise ships, the unprecedented boom in both conventional and business tourism and the development of the Port are indisputable signs of this status.
Thanks to its 23 beaches and 14 marinas, Marseille is the ideal destination for both amateur and professional divers, sailors, sea kayak enthusiasts, etc. Leisure activities can be enjoyed all year round in a unspoilt natural environment.
Marseille also gives visitors a real change of scene, with its Calanques, on a site that was listed as early as 1975. These astounding white limestone cliffs stretch over some twenty kilometres of coastline, plunging into crystal clear water.
As the capital of the south, Marseille is very attached to its traditions and culture, which it promotes and celebrates through its 22 museums, 17 theatres, opera house and stadium seating 60,000 people. Marseille attracts people who love culture and big events. Every year the city organises numerous festivals: jazz, music, dance, traditions and major sporting events are given pride of place.
Marseille invites you to discover its culinary delights through its traditional recipes: not only "bouillabaisse" (fish soup), "pieds et paquets" (pork stew) and "navettes" (biscuit flavoured with orange blossom) but also the concoctions of its new chefs who will surprise you with their inventive cuisine using the exquisite flavours of the Mediterranean.
Come stroll in its luxury boutiques, admire its original, chic and colourful creative artists, and its craftsmen who perpetuate ancestral traditions in soap-making and santons.
Marseille has that special charm of cities you never forget!
To explore everything Marseille has to offer, the Tourist Office and Convention Bureau organises guided tours on specific themes, led by official tour guides (Sacred Art, Bastides, The Old Town, Vélodrome stadium, Industry and Crafts, etc.), plus original sporting and cultural activities centred on the sea, for every age and every taste.
You can also explore the city in a Tourist Taxi (guided audio visits on board selected vehicles) or using the City Pass, a cultural passport for tourists, valid for 1 or 2 days. The City Pass is the ideal formula to discover the whole city in complete freedom, including museums, tourist trains, an excursion to the Château d'If. as well as reductions for certain services.
