Description - Art of living in France

Description of activity "Art of living in France"  :   In Aquitaine, the vine has always ruled, or almost. Castles have been built, hills and forests cleared and a thousand and one techniques and instruments invented, all in the name of this most noble of plants. The sun and the countless qualities of the soil have done the rest.

For those who love good wines, fascinating encounters and beautiful landscapes, this is paradise. Not to mention the warm welcome reserved for visitors by our vine-growers who are always keen to share their passion with others!

The tradition of wine-growing is common to all five départements in the region. The “wine routes” are many, from north to south… starting out from the Bergerac area in Périgord Pourpre (Monbazillac, Pécharmant..), heading into the Bordeaux region and its rolling vine-covered hills before moving on to the valleys of the Lot-et-Garonne (Coteaux du Marmandais, the vines of Buzet-sur-Baïse and part of the Armagnac appellation), then to the vineyards set amid the forests of the Landes (the region of Tursan), and finishing off the voyage in the foothills of the Pyrenees with Irouléguy in the Basque Country to the west, and the vines of Béarn (Jurançon, Madiran…) to the east.
In Aquitaine, there more than 2,200 vineyards open for free visits!

Our favourite: Accommodation amid the vines
Today’s winegrowers are always pleased to share their passion and skills with visitors. It is for this reason that Aquitaine offers a wide selection of “Bacchus” gîtes providing accommodation in the heart of the vineyard and opportunities to visit the winery and taste the different wines of the estate.
