Company description

General description  :
The historic site of Lyon, at the confluence of the rivers Rhône and Saône and close to Europe's leading cities, is listed by Unesco as a World Heritage site.

Come and discover the city's Gallo-Roman roots on Fourvière Hill, near the Notre-Dame Basilica. Take a stroll down the cosy cobbled streets and through the traboules, or covered passageways, in France's largest single fabric of Renaissance buildings… Then move on to savour the city's classical 19th-century districts on the Presqu’île, or peninsula, with its shops, art galleries and antique dealers.

More traboules and stairways lead you up Croix-Rousse Hill through the district of the Canuts, Lyon's silk weavers, which today is a hotbed of artistic creativity.

Built on a two thousand year tradition of exchanging goods and ideas and extending warm welcomes, Lyon is a city on a human scale, where life is intense but you are never crowded out. The people of Lyon have a knack for conviviality and the art of living. They are blessed with internationally famous restaurants, a vibrant artistic and cultural life, a fashion scene that buzzes with creativity (and boutiques to match), the lazy charm of the embankments, squares and gardens… not to mention a range of quality hotels.

When evening comes, you can choose between a walk round the lit-up city, the snug ambience of the pubs and bars, a night out dancing at a club, a dinner cruise, an evening in a hearty bouchon bistro or a live comedy/cabaret show at a café-théâtre. That's always assuming, of course, that you haven't been swayed by a play, opera or dance performance in the extensive listings, or picked a concert of classical, jazz, rock or easy-listening music…

Lyon: a must for every gourmet

Since long ago, Lyon has been the French city where you eat the best. It is home to Paul Bocuse, and to a constellation of other starred chefs. The cookery of Lyon, ranging from earthy bouchons to sublime establishments, is diverse and full of flair, using produce from the generous and sun-drenched terroirs around the city.

To the north of Lyon stretch the vineyards of the Beaujolais and the grands crus of Burgundy; to the south, the wines of Côte Rôtie and the Côtes du Rhône hold sway.
